The Lemosho–Shira Route follows the same spectacular western trail as classic Lemosho, but drives directly to the Shira Plateau for a higher start. From there the route merges with the classic trail across the plateau, past Lava Tower and on to the Barranco Wall. It is a strong choice for experienced hikers who adapt well to altitude and want a faster ascent without losing the beauty of the western approach.

- 01Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO)
Transfer to your Arusha or Moshi lodge, evening briefing, gear check and acclimatisation discussion.
- 02Shira drop-off → Shira 2 Camp
3,500 m → 3,890 m, 3–4 hours. Bypass the rainforest and trek across open moorland with wide plateau views.
- 03Shira 2 → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp
3,890 m → 4,630 m → 3,950 m, 6–8 hours. Climb high, sleep low, then descend into the dramatic Barranco Valley.
- 04Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
3,950 m → 4,040 m, 4–5 hours. The Barranco Wall scramble, then alpine desert to Karanga for a relaxed acclimatisation afternoon.
- 05Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp
4,040 m → 4,645 m, 3–5 hours. A steady ascent to summit base camp on a windswept ridge. Early dinner and briefing.
- 06Summit day → Uhuru Peak → Millennium Camp
Midnight start for Stella Point and Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m, then down to Millennium Camp; final morning descent to Mweka Gate and your lodge.

- How many people share a vehicle?
- Every departure is private. Your party has the whole 4×4 to itself with a guaranteed window seat and pop-up roof for each guest.
- Can this itinerary be customised?
- Yes, every route here is a starting shape. We regularly extend nights, swap camps, add Zanzibar or restructure days around photography light.
- What does the price depend on?
- Season, group size and camp category. The quoted rate is a per-person guide for two travellers sharing in mid-season; we confirm exact pricing with your dates.
- What is the payment schedule?
- A 30% deposit confirms the booking, with the balance due 45 days before arrival. Bank transfer and card payments are both accepted.
- Is it suitable for children or older travellers?
- Yes. We adjust drive lengths, road transfers and lodge choices to suit families and to keep travel comfortable at any age.
- What should I pack for photography?
- A long lens (400mm+), a wide zoom, spare cards and batteries. We supply bean bags in every vehicle and can arrange charging in the field.
